Is it worth advertising on ChatGPT, or would I get better results spending my budget on Google Ads or Meta Ads?

Rather than relying on industry averages, we decided to examine the actual results from one of our clients.

At izivizi, we ran advertising campaigns for the same education business across Google Search Ads, Facebook and Instagram, and ChatGPT.

The campaigns promoted the same business, with similar offers and messaging, and directed visitors to the same website.

We analyzed 34 days of advertising data to answer one simple question:

What does €100 of advertising actually deliver on each platform?

Infographic by izivizi comparing real Google Ads, Meta Ads, and ChatGPT Ads performance for one business (September 25–October 28, 2026). The comparison shows advertising spend, clicks, cost per click, reported conversions, and cost per conversion. For every €100 spent, Google Ads generated 8.85 reported conversions, Meta Ads 7.94, and ChatGPT Ads 1.42.

Google Search Ads delivered the lowest cost per click and the lowest reported cost per conversion.

Meta Ads came surprisingly close on conversion costs, despite its higher cost per click.

ChatGPT Ads delivered traffic at a cost comparable to Meta, but its reported conversion cost was substantially higher.

That last finding deserves a closer look.

How does ChatGPT Ads performance compare to Google Ads and Meta Ads?

One of the most interesting observations wasn't how much a click cost. It was what happened after that click.

Our average cost per click was:

  • Meta Ads: approximately €0.57

  • ChatGPT Ads: €0.61

A ChatGPT click cost only about 7% more than a Meta link click.

At first glance, that doesn't seem like a dramatic difference.

But when we compared reported conversions, the picture changed.

Meta's cost per lead was approximately €12.60, while ChatGPT's cost per reported conversion was €70.62.

Infographic by izivizi comparing Meta Ads and ChatGPT Ads advertising costs using real campaign data. ChatGPT Ads had a 7% higher cost per click (€0.61 vs. €0.57), but a 461% higher cost per reported conversion (€70.62 vs. €12.60), showing why similar click costs don't necessarily lead to similar advertising performance.

That made a reported ChatGPT conversion approximately 461% more expensive than a Meta lead.

The lesson is straightforward: similar traffic costs don't necessarily produce similar business results.

A platform can generate affordable clicks without generating equally affordable conversions.

What €100 delivered on each platform?

Infographic by izivizi comparing Google Ads, Meta Ads, and ChatGPT Ads performance for one education business. For every €100 in advertising spend, Google Ads generated 8.85 reported conversions, Meta Ads 7.94 reported leads, and ChatGPT Ads 1.42 reported conversions, based on real campaign data from September 25 to October 28, 2026.

To make the comparison easier to understand, we normalized the results to a €100 advertising budget.

Google Ads: 8.85 reported conversions

Google generated 92.97 conversions from approximately €1,050 in advertising spend. The vast majority were recorded as lead-form submissions.

Meta Ads: 7.94 reported leads

Meta generated 41 Pixel Lead events from approximately €517 in advertising spend.

ChatGPT Ads: 1.42 reported conversions

ChatGPT generated seven reported conversions from approximately €494 in advertising spend.

These figures describe what the advertising platforms recorded, not necessarily the number of unique or qualified customers acquired.

Nevertheless, the difference is substantial enough to warrant investigation.

Why do Google Ads, Meta Ads, and ChatGPT Ads deliver such different results for the same business?

The three platforms don't reach potential customers in exactly the same way.

Google Search: Capturing existing demand

When someone searches for educational programs for children, they may already be considering a purchase or enrollment.

Google Search allows advertisers to reach people at that moment.

This is commonly described as pull marketing: the advertiser responds to an existing expression of demand.

For our client, Google Search delivered the lowest reported acquisition cost.

Meta Ads: Generating and nurturing demand

Facebook and Instagram advertising works differently.

Someone scrolling through social media may not be actively searching for educational programs.

An advertisement can introduce the offer, create interest, or remind someone who previously visited the website.

This makes Meta useful for demand generation and remarketing.

Despite the difference in user intent, Meta's reported cost per lead was relatively close to Google's.

ChatGPT Ads: Advertising within a conversation

ChatGPT introduces another advertising environment.

Rather than targeting a traditional search-results page or social media feed, advertisements can appear in the context of relevant conversations.

A user may be researching a problem, exploring possible solutions, or comparing alternatives without explicitly searching for a particular business.

That creates a potentially interesting opportunity for advertisers.

However, contextual relevance doesn't automatically mean purchase readiness.

Our results show that ChatGPT can generate clicks at a competitive price, but this initial campaign did not achieve the same reported conversion efficiency as Google or Meta.

Are ChatGPT Ads worth the money, or should I stick with Google Ads and Meta Ads?

This was one client, in one industry, during an early period of ChatGPT advertising.

Google and Meta are mature advertising ecosystems with established optimization methods. ChatGPT Ads is newer, and advertisers are still learning how to improve performance.

Our ChatGPT campaign was also in its initial phase, without the same level of ongoing optimization applied to the more established channels.

It's possible that improvements to campaign messaging, contextual targeting, conversion measurement, and other available controls could change the results.

But that possibility shouldn't be confused with evidence that performance will improve.

At the time of this analysis, Google and Meta delivered substantially more reported conversions per euro spent.

That's what our data shows.

What businesses should take away from this comparison?

The first takeaway is that cost per click alone is not enough to judge an advertising platform.

The second is that different advertising environments attract people with different levels of intent.

And the third is that new advertising channels deserve testing, but their performance should be evaluated against measurable business outcomes rather than novelty.

For businesses considering ChatGPT Ads, we would recommend treating the channel as an experiment with a defined budget, reliable conversion tracking, and clear success criteria.

That makes it possible to evaluate whether the platform deserves a larger share of the advertising budget.

ChatGPT Ads may eventually become an important part of the advertising mix.

Its conversational environment creates possibilities that differ from traditional search and social advertising.

But for this particular business, during this reporting period, Google Search and Meta Ads delivered substantially more reported conversions per €100.

At izivizi, we believe new advertising opportunities should be tested with curiosity, but evaluated with data.

Because the most interesting advertising platform isn't necessarily the one delivering the best business results.
